Foreword

These six games are all big titles (even if i don't like Burnout so much, because that's not the kind of games i usually play). I didn't get the locked ones, so i won't talk about them. The two extra games are not so good in my opinion: about Populous i just read some reviews and i think i do not like it, neither the game nor the graphic, while "Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3" seems to be just a regeression of the acclaimed Red Alert 2. As for the OSTs, well i do not have the games, i do not care about their Soundtracks.

Hardware

The system hardware which i used to play is:

  • CPU: AMD Athlon 2 XIII 3.0 Ghz
  • Video: ATI Radeon 5550 at 550 Mhz
  • RAM: 4 GB Corsair DDR3 1333

Dead Space

I played this before buying at HumbleBundle, imported saved games without any problem and now i am at the seventh level (from which screenshots have been taken). Loved it since the beginning, stunning graphics considering its "old" age (2008) and terrific atmosphere: this is one of the best games i've ever played.

A curiosity about Dead Space is the name of our hero, Isaac Clarke which is a kind of tribute to the two famous sci-fi authors, Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke.

Dead Space 3

Well, i haven't played the second chapter nor i have finished the first, so i can only give some impressions about Dead Space 3. First of all i am just at the beginning, past the introduction and some interactive scenes (which i onestly liked) but 2 thoughts come in mind: my video card has become pretty old, as i am only able to play it at "low" resolution (surely not at 1920*1080) and at very low details which is not totally bad per se, but i think to be missing part of the show.

Second thought: this chapter has lost a lot of suspence and mistery and is more like one of the many First Person Shooters i've played at; let's clarify this.. FPS is my favourite genre of PC games but i've lost a bit of passion about 'em lately, so maybe i was just expecting something special from Dead Space 3 than a lot of kills without a meaningful background: this is the same shit that does the difference between games like Serious Sam and games like F.E.A.R, COD or Bioshock - FPSs are not just and should not just be about killing.

Medal Of Honor (SP)

I've played ALL of the MOH chapters along these years and i've NEVER been disappointed.

Gameplay has changed in the last episodes, i can't really say if nowdays incremented interactivity is better or worse than the simpler approach MOH (as well as COD) had in the past years. Games are evolving towards Multiplayer and CO-OP features, so maybe this is the expected approach thinking about a team of soldiers rather than to a superhero who does the job all by himself by taking down hundred of enemies - this also sounds a bit more realistic, doesn't it?

Even the game's difficulty has changed along the way: now you get much more help, either with text messages on screen about objectives, keys to press, directions to take etc.. and in game too, being helped by your team all of the time: and that doesn't mean that you can just let the others do your job, but it doesn't hurt not to be alone.

To me this is just about entertainment: i would probably be dead in a couple of seconds if i played Multiplayer... that's why i don't do it! :) Yeah, i'm a casual gamer and that's just for fun.

Crysis 2

Crysis 2 is yet another FPS: set in New York City, some years in the future, we dress the clothes of a marine soldier who wears a special suit. He has to find and rescue some "Doctor" who happens to have crucial informations about the aliens invasion that just happened.

The suit we wear gives us a few abilities which are the key to survival: we can hide ourselves from the enemy eyes, the suit can alternatively become a shell to protect us from enemy fire or big jumps and such... there is also a "nanovision" mode which is a sort of thermal imager; each of these abilities consumes energy and you have to deactivate them in order to recharge your suit; so a bit of tatctics is also needed to calculate your movements and avoide being uncovered when enemies are nearby.

One thing that made me laugh is the graphics settings in this game.. click on the following screenshots and you'll understand why.

Finally, a nice shot from the Steam Community:

Mirror's Edge

Mirror's Edge is about "parkour". Set in a futuristic city, where flow of informations is controlled by authorities, the game is an action adventure where some "runners" are hired to deliver packages out of the laws.

Its style and gameplay is really unique, as you won't find anything that is comparable to Mirror's Edge and it's also quite funny. One thing i don't like so far is that you often have to face police/SWAT agents and yes, you're disarmed.. so the trick is, just find a way to evade them or try to kick their ass: you can punch/kick them and you also have some skills about disarming your opponent if you're close enogh.

However, the point is that your course is (of course) limited and even guided by some red paintings on the walls, tubes etc.. which are keypoints to use at our advantage while running/escaping: it's a game, you can't obviously be free to go where you want and do shit :D One other remark i read by the Steam community is that the city is empty; there aren't people around, it's just you and the police.. anyway, the second Mirror's Edge chapter is about to do its debut and maybe some improvments are coming.

What i find to be more disappointing is that the PC version of the game came out after the xbox one; that quite always means you get pissed off about the lack of some features, like decent gamepad support. It's not like "oh, shit, my gamepad isn't recognized!" or even, "Maybe this gamepad is too old, i have to buy a newer one.".. no, that's pretty much like "Those dumb people think that every gamepad has to work out of the box with those xbox settings and they are so sure about it that you can't even change X/Y/Z axys or remap buttons as you like!"

That's not fun. Luckily, mouse and keyboard work quite well - as always.

Oh, yes... just another thing that comes in mind: i had to disable physics in the video settings because that was lowering framerate in such a way that... http://www.overclock.net/t/1080507/mirrors-edge-framerate-drop-fix

Last but not least, in the Italian version of the game, Faith (main character) is dubbed by Asia Argento and soundtrack is by Solar Fields as it is the one of Capsized.
